Overindulge? With ADHD? — ADHD Tip O the Day 935

With ADHD, we are at risk.

I hope you don’t overindulge over the holidays. All you need to do is use your willpower, self-control, and judgment. Assuming you have some. Not all of us do.

My wife makes wonderful cookies.  And pies. Our friends and neighbors give us good eats.  Oh my.   And there’s parties.  And even with the virus, I’ll admit we have some booze at home and there still is a lot to celebrate.

If I can’t see it, it doesn’t exist.  If I can see it, I’ll eat it. (The first part doesn’t necessarily apply to sweets. If someone hides them I can usually find them.)

Strategies:
1. I tend to over drink at parties, especially if the booze is free. I make a rule before I go: one drink, water, one drink, water. Works pretty well, most of the time.

2. Keep reminding myself that it’s much easier to put weight on than it is to get it off.  This strategy rarely has any effect.

NOTICE: There has been a change for this year. The New Year, 2021, does not start until Jan 20. Please make a note of this change.

Jokes O the Day:

One margarita is never enough.
Two margaritas is too many.
Three margaritas is never enough.

Courtesy of my late friend and mentor, Bo Kemp

I said, “It doesn’t matter how many times you fall.  What matters is that you keep getting up.”
He said,“That’s not how a sobriety test works.”

She said, “You’re staggering.”
I said, “You’re pretty cute yourself.”
We laughed and laughed and laughed.
I need bail money.

Freak them out.
Too much?

Were you naughty?
Did you call the cops?

  1. I’ve been using strategy #1 for years, and it works for me!
Thanks for the reminder about The New Year. This time I’ll put it in my phone.
As always, thank you for another great post, and many laughs!

Always love the blog. It was great to see the Bo Kemp inclusion. Although we knew Claire well (remember, I worked with her for several months) we did not have the pleasure of knowing Bo. Hugs, k

Hi Doug! First off: Love the jokes! Especially the one about bail money! And that creeping Santa Claus doesn’t just see you sleeping, he sees everything! Yikes!

Not overindulging over Christmas, now there’s a notion! It usually works well enough if I don’t bake anything – I don’t care for the traditional Christmas sweets of my homeland, so unless I bake something, there’s nothing for me to indulge with. But after the year I’ve had (the health issues on top of being on the same Corona-boat as everyone. And now also the looming unemployment….), I plant to overindulge, as an exception to the rule.
In fact, my standard phrase once holidays start is “right, people. I’m not drunk enough.”. Now, don’t be alarmed, this is just a joke – I neither have a drinking problem, nor does my family consider me at risk of developing one – but I intend to feel tipsy often enough. After all, on the rare occasions it happens, I’m a very happy drunk. Best take advantage of it :p
But all the best to you for your goals! Goals are, as you have taught us so often, very important. We ADHD keep forgetting it. And bless you, Doug, for constantly reminding us. Cheers and merry Christmas! 🙂
