What Still Drives Me Up the Wall, I Mean Up The Flipping Wall:
Politics
The minority “president.” It is not appropriate to go into that here. I probably shouldn’t even have said it. But then I do tend to say things I probably should not have said.
Technology in general and my computer in specific. Sometimes I think it may be the work of the devil.
“Thank you for your patience.”
People who think we shouldn’t “drug” our children and we should “Let boys be boys.”
Arrogance in ignorance.
Conspiracy theories, especially against vaccinations.
You may notice there is some overlap in these.
I try to keep The Serenity Prayer in mind. It helps. Somewhat. When I remember to think of it.
God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Did I really just say that?

I AM CALM, DAMN IT!!!!

Don’t put up with it.

No one is more certain in their views than the one who has no idea what they’re talking about.

About doug with ADHD
I am a psychiatric physician.
I learned I have ADHD at age 64, and then wrote two ADHD books for adults, focusing on strategies for making your life better. I just published my first novel, Alma Means Soul.
Your Life Can Be Better; strategies for adults with ADD/ADHD
available at amazon.com, or smashwords.com (for e books)
Living Daily With Adult ADD or ADHD: 365 Tips O the Day ( e-book).
This is one tip at a time, one page at a time, at your own pace. It's meant to last a year.
As a child, I was a bully. Then there was a transformation.
Now I am committed to helping people instead abusing them.
The Bully was published in January, 2016.
It's in print or e book, on Amazon.
Hi Doug
“Thank you for your patience” Yowza! So that’s one of your pet peeves, huh? Does nothing for me. I actually know what you mean, it just doesn’t trigger me. I DO say it to people on occasion, when I’ve been particularly clumsy and understanding or doing anything and someone comes and helps me through it with no snarky comments. That actually should be a given, but nowadays it isn’t – everyone’s so bleeping passive-agressive…. – so I thank them for their patience.
People who want to “let kids be kids” are also quite annoying. If it helps, your blog and the websites you share about ADD/ADHD are helping people across the world. Not only because of information people can get, but also information blog-readers like myself get and spread around. Last week, my sister came to visit me from back home (Portugal) and she wanted my advice: she’s a pharmacist and one of her customers is a mom whose kid just got a prescription for ritalin (he has ADHD) but she’s afraid he’ll stop being himself. She wanted to know what I could tell her that would be good advice. I manged to tell her that the personality won’t change, that the kid will still have to do the hard-work but it’ll be easier, and that if the kid gets lethargic, the dosage is just WRONG and she needs to go back to the doctor and discuss it ASAP.
We’re all helping. Maybe add that to the serenity prayer? It won’t always work (don’t I know it….) but I like to take the unnerving moments to count my blessings and how I’m changing the world despite being childless 🙂
Have a good day!

Oops… on the first paragraph, I meant “Clumsy and not understanding thing”. The “un” in “understanding” somehow led my head to think I was also saying it was the lack of something 😛

yes, you are helping, including by adding your great comments. including the one about patience. that is a whole different context. . “Thank you for your patience.“ That gets me . Including by adding great comments yes, you are helping when I’ve been on hold for five minutes, or when we sat waiting for a waiter to finally come to our table. “Thank you for your patience.“ – Who the hell told you I have any patience?
But thank you for having patience with me while I fumbled around trying to learn how to use this damned electronic health record system (actually, a quote from me not to me)– that’s a different situation
best wishes

Hi Doug, I’ve been out of touch for a while, but thought I’d drop by…
What about FAKE NEWS? That’s among the things that drives me up the wall. Just today I heard a radio report that claimed fake news spreads much more quickly than real news. And the fact that the American public is so susceptible to fake news allowed a foreign adversary to determine the outcome of the 2016 election (that, and our Electoral College system).
It also drives me up the wall that, through the use of gerrymandering, one party was able to take control of all three branches of our government, thereby making the Constitution’s separation of powers almost meaningless. Well, that’s my vent… I hope you’re enjoying your vacation in Mexico. Jeff
