Addictions and ADD ADHD — ADD Tip O the Day 690

With ADD ADHD, we are prone to addictions.

I struggle with addictions. I have two chess games and a poker game on my iPhone. I manage to control myself and only use them when I’m on a trip or have dead time. There are better ways to use my time and I’m afraid of getting addicted to them.  I’ve been addicted to games in the past.

But I have a new addiction, and I love it.

Brainscape

If you don’t know about Brainscape, it’s an app of flashcards in a wide variety of subjects. The cards are good and appropriate, and the program is excellent. It’s well designed based on learning theory and principles.

So far, I’ve downloaded and used programs on Spanish, music theory, nuclear physics, English vocabulary, and religions, among others.   When I have those little moments of nothing particular to do, these are great. The problem is, once I get on it, it’s hard to get off. But I don’t consider this a waste of time.

Brainscape

Check it out. I think you’ll love it too.

Distracted. Me? Let me look up the definition. Where’s the dictionary? Oh, what is that book? It looks interesting.

Question O the Day:

What you may ask, does this have to do with ADD ADHD?

Answer O the Day:

I don’t know, maybe nothing much.  But then, we are prone to addictions and to wasting time. And with our interest in so many things, it’s easy for us to get stuck in unproductive activities.  This one is at least somewhat productive.

Don’t you think?

Funny enough, I don’t get a tendency to get addicted to games – I usually get frustrated or bored pretty soon. But I would like the chance to thank you for putting Duolingo on my radar! I’ve been pushing off continuing my norwegian studies for a long time now, and it’s perfect with the goals, the skill strenghtening and, more importantly, the daily E-mail reminder! So keep the suggestions coming! 🙂

Hi Doug, it’s Rammkatze – again! I don’t know why WordPress keeps asking me to log in before I post and then stamps me as anonymous anyway! When you see an anonymous with this anonymous avatar, it’s probably me!
Anyway, about the APP: I’m sure there are such things, but I’m not sure they would help with lots of other stuff. We do have a tendency to ignore our own set reminders once they become too familliar.

ram – i think the evil spirits of the internet conspire against us.
you are so right about the set reminders. if i put up a reminder sign, bright color, conspicuous place, it works well the first time for one thing, but after three days i won’t see it.
