ADD ADHD is Messy — ADD Tip o the Day 529

Making a mess:

I previously told you about my struggles with the plastic dish pan for foot soaking. I would have the pan at the sink, fill it with hot water from the teakettle, take it over to the table and put it under the table in front of my chair. I’d slosh some out on way.

Then I would go back to the sink to get some cold water to regulate the temp. When I came back, I would kick the pan, and slosh more out.  Once I  turned it over.

Once I held the pan wrong and the plastic collapsed and everything spilled out.

brilliant new strategy:

The new approach is to put the pan under the table first and then take the teakettle to it. Then I just have to be careful not to kick it when I sit down..

Amazing!  Brilliant!

The principle:

If you can recognize that something is a problem, you can come up with a strategy.

About doug with ADHD

I am a psychiatric physician. I learned I have ADHD at age 64, and then wrote two ADHD books for adults, focusing on strategies for making your life better. I just published my first novel, Alma Means Soul. Your Life Can Be Better; strategies for adults with ADD/ADHD available at, or (for e books) Living Daily With Adult ADD or ADHD: 365 Tips O the Day ( e-book). This is one tip at a time, one page at a time, at your own pace. It's meant to last a year. As a child, I was a bully. Then there was a transformation. Now I am committed to helping people instead abusing them. The Bully was published in January, 2016. It's in print or e book, on Amazon.

  1. I didn’t know that dyslexia often accompanies ADHD. I’m not actually full-on dyslexic but I do have a habit of mixing up numbers, sometimes letters. Years ago I did it often – unfortunately when taking phone messages for my husband’s customers. He figured out that if he switched two of the numbers he could usually get the right person. After a while we got caller id – then he could just check. It’s so annoying.

But I love this statement: “If you can recognize that something is a problem, you can come up with a strategy.” That’s my theme song!

Loved the humor of making a mess! It still has not helped me with blizzard of paper I have strewn all over several rooms in my apartment. Maybe I will retry to simplify and consolidate tomorrow.

I put that plastic tub in the bathtub, because I know I will spill it and I’m somewhat lazy about cleaning up messes. I sit on the edge of the tub, which isn’t nearly as comfortable as a chair. Maybe that’s why I don’t soak my feet very often!
Thanks for your great blog posts!
