So, what about science as applied to ADD or ADHD? Wouldn’t it be nice to know what causes it? And even better, how to cure it??
Well, now you can find out easily. Just clik on the french children link below. A large number of people are eager to tell you the causes and the cures and even the preventatives for ADD or ADHD. It’s lack of discipline or excess discipline or food additives or air and water pollution, or a conspiracy to sell ritalin or so on and so on.
We all have opinions, but many of us are confused about the difference between opinion and fact.
So, here’s where science can be helpful – up to a point, anyway. Science does have it’s weaknesses.
That’s enough for now, more about science coming up. The links below are really good.
(note that in spite of ADD, I used “hash” instead of the other words)

I think the article on French children is a bit misleading. The headline implies that French kids are less likely to have ADD than their US counterparts. However, the only hard data is a comparison between children who (1) have been diagnosed with ADD and (2) are using pharmaceutical medications as a treatment. This comparison says nothing about the overall likelihood that a child might have symptoms related to ADD. It only means that French and US doctors treat the same problems in different ways. One group prefers psychotherapy as a treatment, the other prefers medication.
