ADD and Relationships — ADD Tip o the day 378

It is hard to live with someone with ADHD or ADD.  We let down and disappoint -when I said I would do it, I meant it, but I just forget.  We are late for engagements or don’t show up at all.  We lose things, break things, mess things up.  We cause social embarrassment with inappropriate behavior. We do a poor job of handling money and credit cards and so on.

We need strategies to cope with these things, and our partners need strategies to help us do better.  But when they nudge us or remind us or do it themselves instead of asking us, we feel criticized and resentful. It make us think that they see us as inadequate, which we are, in certain areas.  There are ways to work on this.

None of this justifies anyone abusing us, emotionally or physically.
