Facebook? — ADD Tip o the day 217

Do you get frustrated with facebook or is it just me?   Is it ADD or ADHD? A lot of things don’t work the way I want, and maybe I need a separate page for the blog/book?  People have given me good tips on how to make it work, but I don’t have time (ie no patience) to sit thru the instructions.

With ADD or ADHD we tend to not have the patience for instructions, and if we try, we don’t comprehend them.  But sometimes, sometimes, I can get myself to sit down and go thru them one step at a time, slowly.  Probably saves time in the long run.  But I don’t like it, rather just jump in and try on my own and if it doesn’t work, to heck with it.  Sound familiar?

About doug with ADHD

I am a psychiatric physician. I learned I have ADHD at age 64, and then wrote four ADHD books for adults, focusing on strategies for making your life better. I also published a novel, Alma Means Soul. The books are available at amazon.com (soft cover or E book), or smashwords.com (only E books). The prices are as low as they are allowed to be. Managing Your ADHD Your Life Can Be Better; strategies for adults with ADD/ADHD Living Daily With Adult ADD or ADHD: 365 Tips O the Day ( e-book). This is one tip at a time, one page at a time, at your own pace. It's meant to last a year.

  1. thanks for your comment. yes, technology is a booger. and as soon as we do learn something, they change it. i suspect a giant conspiracy against people with ADD or ADHD.

  2. Linda Secretan says:

Oh. The. Boredom. Right you are, Doug. I can picture myself having learned a new skill, can picture myself applying it, but cannot get myself through the steps, slowly, to actually learn it — particularly if it involves technology. One of the problems is getting the new skill to the point of automaticity.

I’ve just fixed my iPod – one more time – and learned – one more time – how to create playlists and transfer mp3’s. Nothing too demanding or difficult, but it is so long between times that I have to use this particular little skill I forget in between. That’s when I really lose my patience and start to put it off – again. (Would you be surprised that it’s been several months since I’ve used my iPod because I haven’t been able to take myself by the hand to sit down with the website and follow instructions?)

btw – Have you written a post about how you discovered – at 64 – that you have ADD? I’ve come to the same place recently and am just a few years older. What a revelation. Unlike younger ADD’ers, I’ve yet to discover the upside. But it does explain quite a bit in retrospect.
