Irritability — ADD Tip o the day 207

Did you know that irritability is part of ADD?

So its not just me.    I get annoyed by little things, and have some pet peeves.

1. The waiter says, “No problem.”

This is a resturant.  You’re a waiter.  Why in the world would it ever be a problem??

2. I’m on hold to the insurance company.  The lady finally comes on,  “Thank you for your patience.”

I want to say, “What in hell gave you the idea that I have patience?  I don’t have patience, I have ADD.  And the first 15 minutes on hold listening to that awful music and your telling my call is important used up any miniscule amount of patience I might have had.”

But I don’t say that, or at least I haven’t yet ( impulsiveness is also part of ADD).

3.  Then she asks me my name:

           “Doug Puryear”

“Can you spell that?”

            “Yes.”

I haven’t done that yet either, but I can feel it coming.

Maybe I should tell her, “No problem.”?

You’ll remember of course that in Tip 43 I gave  you some strategies for dealing with irritation.  Some of then work sometimes.

If we have ADD or ADHD we need strategies, right?

About doug with ADHD

I am a psychiatric physician. I learned I have ADHD at age 64, and then wrote two ADHD books for adults, focusing on strategies for making your life better. I just published my first novel, Alma Means Soul. This is one tip at a time, one page at a time, at your own pace. It's meant to last a year. As a child, I was a bully. Then there was a transformation. Now I am committed to helping people instead abusing them. The Bully was published in January, 2016. It's in print or e book, on Amazon.

Oh, those are funny. One I really find irritating is when you call a business and before you have a chance to say a word, they say, “May I put you on hold?” I usually say, “Do I have a choice?” which it is immediately apparent I don’t, because they are gone before I get the words out.
