Do I have ADD? — Tip o the day 162

Why are you asking?  Do you think you have it or has someone else told you you do?  Why?

Do you have trouble getting started on things or trouble finishing them?  Are you impatient, irritable, impulsive?  Do you start out new things with great enthusiasm and then get bored when they’re no longer new?  Do you lose things and forget things? And so on and so on.

These are some of the  symptoms of ADD (or ADHD) but not everybody with ADD has all of them.  And there are other things that can cause these symptoms – thyroid disease, anxiety, depression, and others.

If  you think you are a candidate for this diagnosis, then 1. look it up on the net, find a good site with a test and take it.  (google add adult test).  Take several.  2. if you still think you might have it, find a psychiatrist or psychologist ( i’m biased towards the psychiatrist, but the next part is crucial) that really knows about ADD ( not all doctors, and not even all psychiatrists or psychologists do).

Trust me!  If you have ADD or ADHD you are far better off knowing it, there are lots of things you can do to make your life better than it is, including medication or maybe not.

The book will probably be out in January 2011 (3 months late) . It will probably be priced at 16.95, but will be cheaper on amazon.   hopefully there will be electronic and auditory versions available soon after, hopefully.  It will be helpful.

About doug with ADHD

I am a psychiatric physician. I learned I have ADHD at age 64, and then wrote two ADHD books for adults, focusing on strategies for making your life better. I just published my first novel, Alma Means Soul. Your Life Can Be Better; strategies for adults with ADD/ADHD available at amazon.com, or smashwords.com (for e books) Living Daily With Adult ADD or ADHD: 365 Tips O the Day ( e-book). This is one tip at a time, one page at a time, at your own pace. It's meant to last a year. As a child, I was a bully. Then there was a transformation. Now I am committed to helping people instead abusing them. The Bully was published in January, 2016. It's in print or e book, on Amazon.
