Will power – Summary — ADD Tip o the day 145

Do those of us with ADD or ADHD lack will power? I don’t know, but we sure could use some more.  We tend to be impulsive, to blurt out, to procrastinate, to not finish, and so on.  All of those could be helped with more will power.  Plus I tend to overeat, and the wrong things.

The article, August 21, 2011 NY Times magazine, To Choose Is To Lose, is so loaded with information, I hope you can read it.  Our will power is limited, and it gets weaker as we use it.  It is also weakened by making decisions (which also weakens our power to make further decisions, a whole different topic).  And by low blood sugar, which is one reason diets don’t work.  Grasping all of this suggests a number of strategies  (more on this later)  The example I gave was about buying a car, but this comes up in so many situations.    I also read elsewhere that brushing your teeth with the non dominant hand for two weeks will strengthen your willpower !!?????

I don’t know if that works but my left hand is much more coordinated after only two days.
