Will power part 3 — ADD Tip o the day 144

Since we know that if we have ADD or ADHD we are impulsive and impatient and not strong on will power, we have to be careful – the example I’m using is in buying a car, but this applies to coping with lots of situations.

there are lots of general tips about buying a car- know what you want and  what you will pay before you go in.  keep your own notes on the haggling and don’t let the salesman touch your paper.  don’t make a decision until tomorrow, no matter what he says.  and many others.

But specifically for this willpower problem- take breaks, walk around outside, don’t sit in the office and feel pressured, or waiting  for him to come back and stewing.  give your will power and decision making power a rest.  and eat a candy bar – low blood sugar weakens your capacity too.

So think about other examples of situations where this applies -taking a test with a lot of questions, shopping without a list -lots of decisions, etc.

even more later.  this aug 21 2011 ny times magazine article To Choose Is To Lose by john tierney is a gem, loaded with information.
