I was just at a retreat where we did a candle light service. They gave each of us a small white candle with a circle of paper to put around it to catch the wax. Then, one by one, we lit the candles. It was a nice service. I’m not certain, but I think I heard a very small voice saying, “Be careful; hold the candle straight so it won’t drip on the floor.” If I heard it, I must’ve said, “Oh, it’ll be OK.”, or “It won’t matter.” or something like that. After the service, I had a big mess of dripped wax on the rug under me. A big mess. Embarrassing.
Strategy: Listen to the small voice. “Oh, it’ll be OK.” is a red flag to catch my attention. Need to train myself.
