Can’t do it all —– ADD Tip o the day 61

This is one of our problems; we are blessed with a curious active mind and so many things are appealing.  We are not good at setting priorities.  One reason is that often choosing to do A means that we have to give up the  prospect of doing B.  Our new direct TV system lets us record programs, but so many come on at the same time and I can’t record them all.  Have to choose.  My to list for today is too long; I will never get it all done today.  Have to choose.  And the weather is warming up; soon I’ll be able to go fishing again.  But I want to get this book finished.  So what choice do I make the first warm Monday morming?

So I need strategies to help:

Slogans: You can only do what you can do.

                 One thing at a time.

Rule:  Keep the to do list down to five.

Prioritize:  Assess urgency and importance- Is there a deadline, a point at which it will be too late?  What is the payoff?  What will be the consequence if I don’t get it done?  How does this help me move towards my goals?

Using strategies helps to cope with life if I have ADD or ADHD, and strategies make my life better; things are easier.
