irritable ——– ADD Tip o the day 43

I am very irritable.  I get easily annoyed, often over small things, often over things that really aren’t even annoying.  I thought it was just me, one of my character flaws.

I looked up ‘ADD-irritable’ on the net and got 648,000 hits!                                                How come I didn’t know this???

(If you want to try it yourself, google ‘adhd adult irritable -bowel’.)

The net says that the meds don’t particularly help with this symptom.           My strategy:

1. mindfulness-just note to myself, without judgement or trying to change it – “Oh, I’m feeling irritated right now.”

2. I ask myself – “Why?”

3. Logic – “Is this really something to be irritated about?”

4. laugh.  Just laugh.

5. a short prayer

This combination seems to work pretty well.  The irritation usually evaporates, especially if there is no good reason for it.
